Parenting

You might be surprised about how much Judaism has to say about parenting. Or if you’re familiar with some of Torah stories…you might realize that sometimes we learn what NOT to do (think Jacob buying his favorite son a coat of many colors and nothing for his other children). Judaism is replete with wisdom, guidance, insights, and teachings about how to raise a mensch (a kind, caring, responsible person).

Rabbi Amy is currently touring virtually with Parenting on a Prayer and available to teach, present workshops, and speak at your synagogue, book club, community group, parenting circle, and more on how Jewish wisdom can support parenting during the pandemic and beyond. Learn more here.

This honest, loving, scholarly and profound book is an ancient and modern guidebook to parenting and a reminder to parents everywhere of the tenderness and wisdom with which we are all held by the Divine. As a pediatrician, I have read and reviewed many books on parenting. Among them, Parenting on a Prayer, is completely unique. To read it is to be prepared to parent more wisely and recognize more fully that you yourself are a child of God.

“Rabbi Amy came to our shul via zoom and did an outstanding job helping our parents (and our leadership) learn valuable tools and insights into making prayer not just more accessible, but more meaningful. She has a great presence- patient with questions, relatable and supportive. Her book is a great resource for parents and teachers and I would highly recommend Rabbi Amy as a guest speaker live or zoom!”
— -Hazzan Harold Messinger, Congregation Beth Am Israel Penn Valley, PA
Rabbi Amy’s workshop was a thoughtful, engaging, and honest discussion on the joys and challenges of parenting. In sharing her own personal parenting successes and failures she made it clear that there is no “right” way to parent. It was an inspirational evening with timeless advice that I look forward to offering again in the future.”
